Eliza Lee’s debut single ‘Boo’ is sparkling with as much sophistication, poise, and personality as can be expected from a breakout number.

Right off the bat, the smooth riff of the acoustic guitar inspires an air of sensuality and infatuation. Moreover, Lee’s voice hits those soft, low-tempo notes with equal measures of boldness and restraint. Her silky voice flows through the verses like water down a spring: fresh, calming, and immensely powerful. It’s a testament to the production of the song in how it relies upon the most effortless sounds to make its magic work. Only in the chorus does the composition begin to snap, crackle and pop with a brisk intensity, but even that does not go overboard.

Lee already has a considerable amount of fandom on popular social media platforms, so her debut single should definitely have a set audience. It’s in line with the ever-so-growing trend of how musical acts are being discovered these days. Lee too has been able to receive the experience and the exposure necessary to properly approach the music scene and connect with the broader audience.

In ‘Boo’, she pays homage to the classic, sexy tunes of Usher, Alicia Keys, and other R&B artists who’ve paved the way for her. The flavours of R&B are loud and clear throughout the track, and it’s incredibly refreshing to see it being meshed with light synth beats most commonly associated with electronic dance music. Needless to say, Lee recruited some insanely talented personnel to help her write and produce the song — Grammy-winning Phillip White and Mika Lett are being credited as the writers. The former has worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Jojo, whereas the latter has written for P. Diddy, Avril Lavigne, and Macy Gray. The production was taken care of by Brian Watters and two-time Grammy-nominated Masa Takumi, who also have plenty of hip-hop experience under their belt.

Speaking on how she came up with the themes of this romantic, sensual song, Lee said, “I fell for someone who lived far away and despite trying to move on, I could not get them out of my head. This song was my way of giving into the feeling and simply saying, ‘I want you and I can’t fight it’”.
