Hailee Steinfeld treads forward with her double-act reign with her new single ‘I Love You’s’. The single is enchanting, nostalgic, and is teeming with energetic vocals from the versatile performer.
It’s well established at this point that Hailee Steinfeld’s foray into pop music isn’t just an one-off experience; she is here to stay, and each successive single is proving how Steinfeld’s fresh, exhibiting productions are only getting stronger. This particular song begins with a sample from Annie Lennox’s classic ‘No More ‘I Love You’s’, and it should be clear that it’s not just the sounds that Hailee is emulating. The song title itself is a huge giveaway that Hailee is repeating those same sentiments albeit in a much more modern, vulnerable way.
As opposed to Annie Lennox’s hit, which was sung at a slower tempo and functioned as a slow dance song, Hailee’s version is upbeat and provocative. Hailee doesn’t hold back from the choice words that make her emotions all the more visceral and familiar. The electropop-styled synths help ground the song for the current generation, whereas the melody itself is instantaneous infectious and dynamic. Hailee’s vocals are as usual silky-smooth but we really get to distinguish her range during the occasional vocal inflections.
So far, Hailee has already released two singles set to be included in her second EP. The album is scheduled to be released on May 20 but it hasn’t been titled as of now. What makes Hailee’s sound all the more admirable is how she is able to hold down both an impressive acting career and an equally electrifying music career. This woman is bursting with talent, that’s for sure. She has revealed what led her into making this song, saying;
I told myself I needed at least a year before I even considered any kind of relationship. Everyone at that time told me it wasn’t going to happen, I would meet someone tomorrow and that I was jinxing it by saying I wouldn’t. But before I knew it, a year flew by and 'I Love You's' came into my life and it was the perfect way of expressing where I’ve been and what I’ve learned."
