Australian singer Sia has revealed that she has adopted a second boy, further to her announcement last year that she had become the mother of an adopted son.

The news, as told by the star herself on SiriusXM Hits 1 The Morning Mash Up, has stunned fans because she in fact adopted the boy last year, at the same time as her other son. Previous commentary on the adoption had indicated she had only adopted one child.

Sia has explained that she chose to adopt both boys when they turned 18 and had aged out of the foster care system. Children “aging out” of the government funded support system represents a significant problem, as they often end up homeless and alone. Studies consistently show that younger children and babies stand a much higher chance of successful adoption, with older children and teens running real risk of “aging out” and ending up on the streets.

Needless to say, the Aussie mother has received praise and support for her announcement, the knowledge that she has opened her home and her life to not one, but two young men in need just further evidence of her kindness and compassion. On The Morning Mash Up, Sia spoke of the deep love she has for her sons and how they are supporting each other through the present COVID-19 pandemic. 

The multi-talented singer, songwriter, voice actress and music video director has enjoyed a lengthy and varied career, commencing in the mid-1990s with acid jazz band Crisp. Following their disbanding, she wrote songs for other artists, including Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Rihanna and fellow Aussie Kylie Minogue, performed backing vocals for Jamiroquai, released several studio albums and toured around the world.

In 2010, she earned two Aria Awards in Australia for her track “We Are Born,” from the album of the same name. Her song with Diplo and The Weeknd, “Elastic Heart,” released in 2013 for the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” was later recorded as a solo version for her “1000 Forms of Fear” studio album. In March 2014, the iconic song “Chandelier” from the same album was released. The combination of these two songs and their controversial videos featuring young dancer Maddie Ziegler, quickly made Sia a household name. Her poignant lyrics and powerful voice saw her rise to the status of musical A-list and firmly remain there due to her continued hard work and incredible songs.

The usually very private celebrity often covers most of her face when in public and seldom speaks about her personal life. Sia has usually chosen to let her music do the talking, with her lyrics being powerful and deeply honest. This latest revelation about the adoption of her sons has given fans a rare glimpse into her private family life, and provided us all even more reason to adore her.
