Legendary American pop icon Cher has not let the current pandemic stop her from celebrating her 74th birthday.

Discussing her party on twitter, the singer assured fans that had complied with all government-issued regulations to ensure the health and safety of all present. She kept the gathering small, with only ten people, and hosted the event outdoors to ensure that appropriate social distancing could be maintained. As further precautions, guests also wore masks and gloves. 

The Grammy-winning artist commented that organising the event was challenging, and that there were many things she had ideally wished to do but was unable to. The guest list has been kept very private, but no doubt consisted of those closest to the star, assuring the necessarily intimate gathering would be with her nearest and dearest. 

Cher’s wildly successful career now spans six decades, giving us hit after hit with her incredible talent and diversity. Music, movies, television, over the years she has proven she can not only do it all but do it better than most. 28 studio albums, 18 films, an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and three Golden Globes are just a few of the achievements she has netted in her distinguished career. Her hard work, dedication and incredible talent cementing her undisputed place as the Goddess of Pop and earning her legions of fans of all ages.

Her distinctive contralto voice is warm, deep and bold, with remarkable resonance, power and control across her entire vocal range. Her lyrics often reflect deep emotions and celebrations of power, hope, and fun. Also a skilled actress, Cher has given life to some of cinema and television’s most beloved and recognisable characters. 

Cher announced her retirement from touring in 2002, stating that her “Living Proof: The Farewell Tour” would be her last. The tour earned a place in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records as the highest grossing ever for a female artist. But the call of touring proved too strong for the star to resist, commencing her amusingly named “Here We Go Again Tour” in September 2018. Set to go right through until December 2020, it is currently on a period of hiatus due to the COVID-19 outbreak. 

Her charity work and entrepreneurism have been tireless, and Cher is the very definition of a role model and icon. Her immense talent, strength, kindness, passion, conscientiousness, and firm moral core have been a positive popular culture mainstay for over 50 years. And now Cher has well and truly set the example for celebrating in style and safety for her birthday. Happy birthday Cher!
