American rapper Snoop Dogg has echoed the voices of the masses with his latest offering, “I Wanna Go Outside”. This catchy new track laments over current lockdowns and makes the apt and bold statement that this is not the way humans are supposed to live.

As with many of the legendary artist’s songs, it is poignant and masterfully written, speaking to the mood of the present day and giving us all plenty to think about.

Snoop’s distinctively relaxed rap style, instantly recognisable as always, has an interesting effect on this track. Even though he is seemingly complaining about wanting to go outside and have fun and being unable to, we don’t get that whiny feel we might expect from any other artist. Instead, we are left wholeheartedly agreeing with him, joining in with his sentiment as we bop our heads along to the song.

This single reminds us all what we are missing out on. The rapper lists various activities that are simply out of reach for him, and the rest of us right now. Going to the beach, hanging at the club, having a good time in the sun; things that we all used to do as part of our routine that are no longer possible. But between the sadness and longing, are those hints at something deeper.

Snoop assures us that we are doing the right thing with this track. That our sacrifices are helping to stop the spread of this pandemic and help make the world that little bit safer. There is hope in his words. That things will not be this way forever and one day we will all be able to enjoy going outside again, socialising, and doing all those things we love. And when we do, we can do so knowing that we aren’t putting anyone in danger in the pursuit of a good time.

“I Wanna Go Outside” is such an instant classic Snoop Dogg song. It makes you smile, makes you groove and above all else, makes you think. The wisdom and calm in his words, the reason, the logic and the positive, hopeful vibes are exactly what we all need right now. Sure, we all wanna go outside. But what we all want more, is for us and our loved ones to be safe, happy and healthy. And Snoop conveys this message brilliantly with this fun, upbeat and awesome track.
