Scottish heavy metal band Bleed from Within have dropped their fifth studio album, “Fracture.” And with an abundance of those impressive riffs we’ve all come to know and love from these guys, plus a special appearance from Trivium frontman Matt Heafy, there is plenty to enjoy here.
Fans of this group will know they are no strangers to experimentation with different riffs, in fact this seems to have almost become their signature. And this latest release offers that familiar Bleed from Within sound while also adding something fresh and new.
Since their inception in 2005, the band has undergone a few line-up changes and really managed to hone their sound to the fine-tuned mastery we hear today. Vocalist Scott Kennedy has always provided brilliant, edgy voicings to their tracks, but this one, he sounds even more savage, like he’s opened up flood gates of emotion and wants us all to feel what he does. The effect is powerful and profound. Guitarists Craig Gowans and Steven Jones achieve the perfect blend of harmonisation, and skilful use of riffs with solos that are not overdone, and provide exactly what each track needs. And that guest solo from Heafy on “Night Crossing” is an extra special treat for us all to enjoy.
The rhythm section of Davie Provan (bass) and Ali Richardson (drums) provide the perfect backbone for the vocals and guitars to soar above, creating pounding beats that seem to urge every track forwards while keeping everything solidly in place. These guys have achieved such a wonderful balance within their sound, with nothing feeling like too much or too little. Even though this is only the second album featuring their current line-up, they’ve already firmly honed in on that remarkable synergy that makes for a truly great band.
Bleed from Within have proven themselves difficult to classify in terms of specific metal genre, including elements of metalcore, groove metal and death metal. Their ability to combine the best of all these styles is by far one of their greatest strengths and you can really hear it on “Fracture.” If you love metal, check this one out today.
