American singer, songwriter and multi-talented musician has gifted us with not one, but three album releases.
His new self-titled album has dropped, along with re-releases of 2008’s “Punk Rock Guilt” and 2010’s “Gods & Goddesses.” The rock veteran has been pumping out great music for years and new offerings from him have always been something to look forward to.
With a career now spanning over three decades, Bjork has 12 solo albums under his belt, as well as two with Brant Bjork and the Bros and another with Low Desert Band. He has frequently collaborated with others and was the founder of Californian rock group Kyuss. Over the years, he has demonstrated remarkable proficiency across multiple musical styles, particularly stoner rock, desert rock, heavy metal, and hardcore punk.
Bjork’s latest self-titled release is desert rock at its finest. You can almost feel California as you listen. It is a welcome throwback to his earlier work yet does not feel rehashed or old. It has a funky, almost bluesy mood, such a wonderful mix of his repertoire of genres, performed with the confidence and skill that only extensive experience can provide.
The lyrics are edgy and raw, filled with a tremendous combination of references that will make you smile, make you feel and make you think. The whole album has a delicious punky undercurrent running through it, reminding us just how far Bjork’s talent and range extends.
There is so much to love on this album. It is a free-flowing rock masterpiece from beginning to end. And above all else, it is fun. You will enjoy yourself while listening to this one, as well as enjoying the sound of truly masterful music.
