Apple Music Match: Are They Scrubbing Swearing From Your Music?

It has been reported by Cult of Mac website that Apple's Cloud Music Match service has been removing profanity from songs without the users knowledge. Apparently Apple have been replacing songs with explicit lyrics with cleaner versions of the songs.

Music Match requires it's users to pay for the service. However, you are not required to upload your personal song collection to their cloud. Once the user has synced their iTunes collection to Music Match, Apple will then match your collection with the multitude of songs in the iTunes store. However, with songs that are less than angelic have been getting scrubbed so it seems.

A writer from Cult of Mac reported that he had recently noticed that four of the songs from his rap collection had been scrubbed. They had basically been replaced with cleaner versions of the original. The Cult of Mac site revealed a multitude of comments from other users who had their rock, pop and dance music scrubbed.

The issue that many customers seem to be having is that they are paying 25 dollars a year to have their music scrubbed.

The problem is many people may actually prefer a few swear words in and amongst their song collections. Artists like Eminem contain many X-Rated lyrics which would mean the cleaner version would be quite different from the X-rated version. Perhaps it could be a blessing for parents but many are seeing this more of a hassle, than a good thing.

Is this another way of big companies controlling us, or is it for the best? Maybe there should be an option for song lyrics to be replaced with friendlier ones. What are your thoughts on this and do you think its a problem?
