With Las Vegas also being on national shutdown with covid-19 closing all the venues, casinos and hotels for months, entertainment has taken a backseat to dealing with the problems at hand.
Hard Rock Casino has closed for rebranding, along with their music venues like; The Joint and Vinyl. Big names that hold residencies on the strip of Las Vegas have put their shows on hold or canceled them indefinitely. One example is Britney Spears who has decided not to continue with her Las Vegas show.
Planted in the Las Vegas, Nevada valley, Indie bands are humming away with original ‘tunes. Among the great talent of the Las Vegas music scene is pop band Goldboot, a disco-esque duo comprised of singer Logan Lanning and drummer Bobby Lucy. Among many of the performances they have given on and off tour, the Life Is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada is one of them.
I interviewed Logan at a local coffee shop, and he seemed thrilled on the idea of me doing a piece about music in Las Vegas.
Logan writes, “I imagine Vegas is much like every music scene in a way that it waxes and wanes. It blossoms and then it hits a drought. Vegas has been our home since our beginning so we have little to nothing to compare it to, but with that being said we have been fortunate to cultivate a deep and loyal fan base.”
When asked if he sees himself ever breaking out of the Indie world and being a mainstream star, because that seems to be every artist’s dream he replies;
“I think bobby and myself have always viewed ourselves playing at the highest level because we are competitors and would love nothing more than to share our music with the most broad of audiences.”
Q: how would you describe your style of music?
A: I think overall its pop music. I never reference bands or "we sound like.." but we've always been drawn to the groove of a song so I think that permeates throughout our discography but is not a limiting factor when we write.
Goldboot released a new album in 2019 entitled “Mars.” The instrumentation on this album uses vocoders and harmonics that make the sound rich, full, and futuristic. Listen to “Mars” at https://open.spotify.com/album/5Yobu5bsAIPdbcRwo04txA?si=eMQqPpgBQfKWAzuXUbLvGg
