Brits Blast Adele, Ed Sheeran & Blur Record Sales
- in Latest
Since the UK's biggest music awards Ceremony The Brit Awards, acts who performed and received most recognition have seen a massive influx in sales. Adele, Ed Sheeran and special award winners Blur have seen dramatic increases.
Brit pop rockers Blur, who have been in the music scene over 20 years saw a whopping 2700% increase in album sales. Ed Sheeran who received 2 Brit awards was said to have seen a 640% rise. Also, Adele (despite putting up her middle finger to the audience) Saw a 750% movement. Stats were apparently compared to the previous week.
This proves what effect the Brits can have on sales. For new up and coming artists like Ed Sheeran it will mean a great deal of exposure, which could potentially bring him into the lime light further. Since modest solo artist Ed Sheeran won his award, he has since commented that he will put his awards next to his 'Star Wars' Lego toy on the mantelpiece. Last year Sheeran could probably of only dreamed of performing at the Brits. The solo artist also performed a faultless acoustic version of his song Lego House.
Modest Ed with 2 Brits
Adele, who has also has already had massive success with her Album 21 shocked experts in the music industry to see that a further boost of that kind was possible. This was working on the theory that a lot of people will already own the album. Some suspect though that the controversial interruption in Adele's award acceptance speech could have acted in a positive way by generating media interest, resulting in more sales.
iTunes download chart showed a large trend which were the result of the Brit Awards, amazingly the top 8 positions were dominated by the Brit winners. Ed Sheeran and Adele took the top 3 positions, with Adele making it to the top. Most award ceremonies quickly effect the iTunes download charts. Other contributing factors can be shows like the X-Factor, if contestants perform covers of older songs.
Tuesday nights Brit Awards was reported to pull in 6.2 million viewers, which was apparently the biggest audience for seven years.
