Sony Music Confirms Theft of Michael Jackson Songs by Internet Hackers
- in Latest
Sony Music has confirmed rumors that several Michael Jackson songs were stolen from their website by a group of suspected hackers. It has been reported that over 50,000 files which included a large number of unreleased material were hacked into and stolen. Although this has been confirmed, Sony have not yet released specific information. They have refused to comment and elaborate on exactly what has been stolen.
Sony music bought the rights to Michael Jackson's catalogue of music in a seven year deal which is said to be worth over $250 million. Sony released a tribute album entitled "Michael" after the singers untimely death in 2009. The singer was due to take part in a 50 show stint at London's 02 arena in the summer of 2009 when he tragically died.
It has been reported that the late Michael Jackson record songs with major artists such as Freddie Mercury and will.iam. These songs are bound to be leaked however, Sony are yet to confirm whether these songs were amongst the tracks that were stolen by the hackers.
The files were apparently stolen around about the time when Sony's Playstation Network was hacked in April of 2009. Two UK citizens were charged with computer hacking and copyright offences. James Marks and James McCormick will be standing trial in January 2013.
