American country singer, songwriter and banjo player Ashley Campbell has confirmed details of her new album, Something Lovely, which is due for release trough Vacancy Records in the UK, Ireland, and Europe on 9 October 2020.
The album, Campbell’s second after he 2018 debut The Lonely One, will feature twelve new tracks and will be preceded by lead single and album title track Something Lovely on 28 August. The album’s second single, If I Wasn’t featuring Vince Gill, drops on 18 September.
Campbell’s musical pedigree is arguably second to none. The 33-year-old is the daughter of country music legend Glen Campbell and his fourth wife Kimberly Woollen, and is the youngest of all of Campbell’s eight children.
After she graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in theatre, she was invited by her father to join his tours of Australia and New Zealand, and play the banjo. She also played the banjo and keyboards for her father during his farewell tours in 2011 and 2012.
Her first solo release was the single Remembering in 2015 which documented her father’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, and appeared on the soundtrack to the documentary film Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. The soundtrack won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and was nominated for an Oscar.
Campbell has played in the UK before – in 2016 she came over to play the Country to Country music festival, where she performed several sets. Some of the material she played then found it’s way on to The Lonely One.
That debut album was initially due to be released through Dot Records, but was eventually released through her own label Whistle Stop Records after Dot Records closed. The Lonely One was produced by her brother Cal, and featured thirteen tracks all co-written by Campbell.
It reached number six in the UK country album charts and blended her traditional country music upbringing with elements of pop, Americana and folk.
