The music world has been shocked by the devastating news that rapper DMX is currently in a vegetative state following suffering a heart attack last week. The 50-year-old, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was hospitalised on Friday, as confirmed by his long-time lawyer Murray Richman. The news has also been confirmed by Simmons former manager, Nakia Walker, who reported that she has been in contact with his family.
Reports earlier today stated that Simmons had been taken off life support, however this has now been confirmed as false. His family are reportedly very concerned, and praying he makes a recovery. Some relatives have been permitted to visit him in the hospital.
The rapper’s troubled past has never been secret, however he has always been able to express himself and his concerns so beautifully through his music. Born in a poor section of New York in 1970, an only child who would grow up to find himself in trouble with the law many times. In 2008, he served time in prison on several charges, including narcotic possession, weapons and driving matters.
Rumours have circulated since Friday that Simmons’ heart attack was due to drug misuse, however this has not been confirmed and remains only speculation. The comments apparently came from an unnamed source. The rapper also reportedly needed to be revived three times after losing consciousness and has been in a critical condition ever since.
Fellow musical artists have taken to social media to express their well wishes over the weekend, wishing Simmons a speedy recovery. Eminem, Missy Elliot and Chance the Rapper, have all tweeted messages of support.
