As if fans were not overjoyed enough to see the Polish blackened death metal stunners, Behemoth touring again, the group has given them even more to celebrate by surprising everyone with a brand new track.
During the first show of the North American Siege 2022 Tour in Tempe, Arizona, they wowed the audience with Ov My Herculean Exile, a gloriously dark and gloomy addition to their setlist, showcasing that wonderful depth we have come to know and love from Behemoth.
They have not officially released any new material since 2018, but ahead of the current tour, were teasing new music. But even so, Ov My Herculean Exile has come as a blissful surprise to not only concert goers at the show but also the wider community, thanks to the magic of the internet.
While the only available footage of the performance comes from fans at the show who managed to capture the performance on their phones, it is still absolutely worth checking out. The track is very much in line with the ongoing evolution we have seen of Behemoth over the years. They have been slowly transitioning to become more digestible by wider audiences, to reach more people, and obviously, sell more records. Not a cynical view here, rather common sense.
But make no mistake, these guys are not going soft on us. This new offering does still manage to hold on to that old Behemoth feeling, but adding, instead of taking away. It's as if they have grabbed the bare bones of their old style and applied additional layers to it, to give us something that old and new fans alike will love.
It is rumoured that they have a new album coming out later this year, which will be their first in four years. If Ov My Herculean Exile is any indication, we are in for a real treat.
In the meantime, there are still tickets available for upcoming dates for the North American Siege 2022, so you can catch the guys along with Arch Enemy and Napalm Death until mid-May.
