Ben Tyler brings a fresh voice to pop in his new album Phoenix, released on all streaming services today. Chronicling the pain of reconciliation, emotional breakthroughs, and moments of quiet success, the 10-track release fully showcases the singer-songwriters creative bandwidth. The artist has a long history of writing, recording, and performing original music that has led to the anticipated full-length collection. After opening for major artists and playing countless live shows in Boston and New York City, Tyler was finally ready to share his experiences with the world.
The opening track, “Doin’ It My Way,” is a high-energy romp that sets the precedent for the rest of the album. Tyler makes it clear that this project really is going to be done his way and nobody else’s. The fresh melodies and clean production are reminiscent of iconic pop songs of the early 2000s, but are presented authentically and with a fresh perspective.
Tyler's songwriting shines in Phoenix's slower, emotional songs including "On My Way Home" and "Stay." The effortless blend of folk, indie, pop, and singer-songwriter elements in each track lead listeners on a journey from discovery to acceptance that is flawlessly delivered. The album’s final track, “With You,” is a beautiful bookend to this project. It’s about moving on and recognizing how life changes along with the people around you.
The imparting thought of Phoenix is how moving forward is the only way to truly exist, and Ben Tyler perfectly captures the raw fear and eventual breakthrough that occurs when one trusts themself implicitly. Like its title, the album soars despite the hardship.
