The legends of Irish rock, U2, have announced a highly-anticipated residency in the city of neon lights, Las Vegas. In a commercial that aired during the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, the band confirmed 'The U2: UV Achtung Baby Live At The Sphere' residency, set to take place later this year. The series of shows will be hosted at the brand-new MSG Sphere venue and will be centered around their 1991 album, 'Achtung Baby'.
However, fans will be treated to performances by Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton, minus injured drummer Larry Mullen Jr. In a statement, the band said they "don't want to let people down" and expressed how much they miss performing live for their fans, who they consider the "fifth member of the band". The residency at the Sphere venue, according to U2, is an opportunity to elevate the live music experience to a new level.
Unfortunately, the dates for the residency have yet to be revealed, but drummer Bram van den Berg will be stepping in for Larry, who is unable to perform for the rest of 2023 due to back surgery. In December, Larry ruled himself out of touring with U2 this year due to ongoing physical health issues, stating he needed surgery for his "elbows, knees, [and] neck". However, it has been made clear that he is not "leaving or retiring" from the band.
