Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen Sued for Copyright Infringement
- in Latest
Owl City’s Adam Young and Carly Rae Jepsen are allegedly being sued over their hit Good Time for copyright infringement.
The case has been brought forward by singer/ songwriter Allyson Nichole Burnett who claims that the pair have copied part of the song from her 2010 track Ah, it’s a love song.
The part of the song in question is where Jepsen vocalizes several ‘ohs’. Burnett claims that this section of the song copies a “unique vocal motif” from her own.
It is interesting to note that the sections of the songs in question are both in different keys although they do share similarities such as pitch sequences and timbre.
One of Burnett’s main points in the case is that she has “suffered emotional and psychological damage” from fans asking why she copied her song from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, despite her song being released two years prior.
According to the lawsuit, Burnett is looking to receive royalties from the sales of Good Time.
Unsurprisingly, Ah it’s a love song has received more exposure since the accusations began. Funny that...
