The UK edition of Nashville's all-female writer's round, Song Suffragettes London, returned to the Camden Club last night (3rd May) for the latest installment of its monthly series of intimate shows. The event showcased an evening of country music by Kezia Gill, Desirée Dawson, Marlene Oak, Vic Allen, and Jeorgia Rose. The audience was enthusiastic, and for those who missed the event, a full set stream is now available on YouTube.
Song Suffragettes London made its UK debut last year with a critically acclaimed national tour featuring Kalie Shorr, Carter Faith, Twinnie, and Robyn Ottolini, presented by the Academy of Country Music. British duo Ward Thomas also made a special guest appearance at the sold-out, "triumphant London debut." The collective is a group of female singer-songwriters that performs two shows every Monday night at The Listening Room Café in Nashville, Tennessee.
Song Suffragettes aims to combat discrimination against women in the music industry by giving female talent a place to play, grow, and evolve with fellow creatives. Since its inception, 37 women from the group have gone on to receive record deals, including Kelsea Ballerini, Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, GAYLE, Tenille Arts, and Megan Moroney. Over 60 have landed music publishing deals. With over 5 million views on their YouTube channel, Song Suffragettes was named by Billboard magazine as one of "Next-Gen Nashville: 16 People, Places, and Things Shaking Up Music City." Guest performers have included Ashley McBryde, Maddie & Tae, Lindsay Ell, Sara Evans, Mickey Guyton, Deana Carter, Natalie Hemby, Lauren Alaina, and many more.
The next Song Suffragettes London show will take place on June 7th, with the lineup to be revealed later this month exclusively on Holler. Tickets for the show are available at www.SongSuffragettes.co.uk. The collective continues to spread its message of inclusion and opportunity for women in all corners of the music industry, and Song Suffragettes London is a significant step in that direction.
