Albin Lee Meldau, a renowned artist in his native Sweden and a Grammy-nominated sensation, merges his mixed roots background with timeless, heartfelt songwriting. With an impressive track record of BBC Radio 2 A-lists, support from Greg James and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, a Top 40 hit in the Netherlands, appearances on Elton John's Rocket Hour, and global performances, Albin Lee Meldau reveals his brand new single 'When You're Here' today, building anticipation for his upcoming winter album release. Take a listen below.
'When You're Here' showcases Albin's profound songwriting prowess, resonating powerfully with international audiences. The song beautifully captures the essence of classic romance - love and loss, tenderness and regret - with timeless melodies, warm instrumentation, and the evocative emotions conveyed through Albin's stirring vocals. It's sophisticated adult pop born from genuine sentiments, from the soaring highs ("You sleep the whole night without fear when you're here") to the heartbreaking lows ("Should've held on tight but I just let you go").
Reflecting on the track, Albin shares, "‘When You're Here' is a melancholic love song about loss and regret. It encapsulates the contrasting emotions of the joy felt when you're together and the despair experienced when you're apart."
Co-written by Albin and his close friend Eg White (known for his work with Adele and Florence + The Machine), the track was co-produced by Nick Lobel (Harry Styles, Sam Smith).
The accompanying music video for 'When You're Here' visually captures the whirlwind of emotions depicted in the song. Portraying a couple separated by distance, the video showcases their contrasting reactions: she exudes liberation and carefree energy, while he visibly embodies heartbreak and misfortune. 'When You're Here' follows the success of last year's 'Forget About Us', crafted alongside Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, James Arthur), which propelled Albin to breakthrough status in the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany. The writing process for this album began during the pandemic when Albin recognized the importance of taking his time to ensure perfection. Recurring visits to Shepherd's Bush in London for sessions with Eg White and transatlantic contributions from Nick Lobel in his American studio culminated in the creation of the album.
Hailing from a family with Swedish and English roots, Albin Lee Meldau made waves with his debut track 'Lou Lou' in 2016, garnering international attention and leading him to SXSW and an acclaimed Tiny Desk session for NPR Music. His debut album 'About You' in 2018 further solidified his career, earning him a Swedish Grammy nomination for Best Singer-Songwriter, multiple platinum certifications and top 10 hits in Scandinavia, airplay across Europe, accolades such as the MMETA and Anchor awards at the Reeperbahn Festival, and performances alongside artists like Leon Bridges and Jessie Ware. Collaborations with notable figures like Justin Parker (Adele, Lana Del Rey) and Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith, Disclosure) have also contributed to his remarkable journey. Now, Albin Lee Meldau embarks on an exciting new era that should not be missed.
