Carly Rae Jepsen Sued Over Claims of Plagarism
- in Latest
Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen hasn't had much luck the last couple of weeks. First, it was reported that she was being sued along with Owl City’s Adam Young for copyright infringement over their hit Good Time. Now she is being sued again over claims of plagiarism.
Ukrainian singer AZA has filed a lawsuit against Jepsen over claims that the lyrics to the song Call me Maybe have the same “lyrical basis” has AZA’s own song Hunky Santa.
When asked about the allegations, AZA said “I’m shocked and surprised that these people wanted to sample my lyrics on their song.
“They didn’t ask me for permission, they just took it. That’s why I filed this lawsuit.”
Carly herself is strongly denying the allegations against her claiming that she hasn’t even heard Hunky Santa.
A representative of Jepsen said: “This is completely false and Carly’s lawyers will deal with this. Everyone knows Carly is a songwriter. She is not spending a lot of time listening to Ukrainian radio.”
AZA is fighting for unspecified damages and a court order that would essentially put a ban on Call me Maybe being possessed, distributed, sold, reproduced, advertised or promoted around the world.
