Sarah Klang, an artist hailing from Sweden, has released her latest single, "Worst Mom," from her forthcoming album titled "Mercedes," set to be released on October 20th via Nettwerk. This album marks a significant transition in Klang's life, as she bids farewell to her twenties and embraces motherhood, which also serves as the album's namesake. "Mercedes" continues to showcase Klang's distinctive style of storytelling, characterized by stream-of-consciousness narratives that resonate with a broad audience. In this collection of 10 songs, she delves into deeply personal yet universally relatable human experiences.
While Klang celebrates the joys and beauty of motherhood in tracks like the title song "Mercedes" and "Magic Stone," she also bravely addresses the challenges and difficulties faced during this transformative journey, as evident in "Worst Mom." This single, accompanied by a compelling video, captures the rollercoaster of emotions that often accompany the early days of motherhood, with Klang expressing, "I feel like the worst mom today... probably gonna cry all day."
Klang emphasizes her intention to portray the multifaceted nature of motherhood, encompassing both the positive and challenging aspects. Regarding the video, she describes it as a surreal and exaggerated representation of the emotions experienced by new mothers, almost like a parody of those feelings brought on by sleep deprivation and the demands of caring for a newborn. The video also aims to depict sleepless nights and endless walks, all while highlighting the profound love a parent has for their child.
Sarah Klang has consistently demonstrated her talent for autobiographical songwriting, evident in her acclaimed debut album, "Love in The Milky Way" (2018), which received the Best Album award at the Swedish Grammis awards. Her follow-up album, "Creamy Blue" (2019), continued to garner recognition with nominations in categories such as 'Best Album' and 'Best Alternative Pop' at the Grammis awards, as well as a nod for 'European Album Of The Year' at the IMPALA Awards. Throughout her career, Klang's music has drawn inspiration from various genres, including '60s and '70s pop, Americana, and a touch of country. However, with her 2021 release, "VIRGO," she expanded her musical horizons by incorporating elements of '80s synth-pop, earning her yet another Swedish Grammy for Best Alternative Pop. Her work has garnered praise from tastemakers, including i-D, Rolling Stone, and Clash.
