Spotify Launch New Web Browser App
- in Latest
Spotify has announced that a new version will soon be available and will allow users to stream music through any web browser.
The new app will look similar to the desktop software with many of the same features that users are used to such as Spotify Radio and playlist editing.
In a statement, Spotify described the new app as: “a great additional feature for times you can't play music through the desktop app, like at work or at a friend's house.”
So the idea isn’t to replace the desktop app but rather to bring the users musical experience with them wherever they are.
It is unclear whether users will be able to synchronize their own music libraries with the web app although there has so far been no indication that such a feature would be available.
This is obviously a downside to the service however, there are huge advantages as well. Anyone who regularly uses a computer at work, school or college will know that it is not always practical or sometimes you are outright unable to install software on computers that you are using. With the web app, this will be a problem of the past.
Spotify joins its rivals in launching the service as many of them such as Rhapsody, Rdio and Mog already have similar apps. With the launch of the web app, Spotify will surely be cementing its place as the leader in its field for some time to come.
