Christopher Maloney has confirmed that he has quit using Twitter for the time being after receiving a barrage of death threats from outraged X Factor fans.

The backlash comes after Ella Henderson was voted out in a shock result on Sunday night, leaving Christopher as one of the last contestants not to have been in the bottom two along with Jahmene Douglas.

Many fans blamed him for the inexplicable results and took to his Twitter page to vent their frustrations.

One fan said: "CHRISTOPHER MALONEY KILL YOURSELF." Another rather dramatically said: "Oh my god I feel to cry. I'm gobsmacked. Christopher maloney I will kill you in ur sleep."

Fans not only blamed Christopher himself for the result but also the people who have been voting for him throughout the competition. One user wrote: "WHO IS VOTING FOR CHRISTOPHER MALONEY?! DIE."

Christopher has now finally had enough and he took to his Twitter account to announce his hiatus from the site saying: "Ello guys, taking a break from twitter for a bit, need to concentrate on my songs for this week. Ope u understand, thanks 4 ur support. Xx."

Christopher has caused a lot of controversy this year over claims of him being a “diva” backstage and causing arguments with the other contestants.
