RealTalk Does Not Hold Back in His Latest Album ‘True’

by Adam Bailey

There is a lot to be said for underground music and how it reverberates much more strongly among the community than the manufactured commercial hits on the radio.

RealTalk the Black Boy King is one of the many independent artists continuing to make a difference through his work in the underground scene, where he explores a range of themes through his music. His latest project ‘True’ similarly gets at the heart of the struggles in the African-American community, with the lead single ‘Coming For Me’ delving into police brutality, racism, and self-empowerment. RealTalk’s verses are clear and powerful, the background piano refrain inserting an essence of the surreal within the R&B genre, whereas Valentine’s vocals provide a catchy, motivated chorus the listeners can latch onto.

What is notable about RealTalk’s album is the extent to which he has collaborated with other independent artists; most of the tunes feature the vocals of other up-and-coming artists, all of which inject something distinct into the composition. RealTalk has been honest about the struggles with getting one’s music out through the underground channel and how commercial, big-name recording studios curb creativity with their continuous restrictions and directions, but credit must be given to RealTalk for how catchy and charming his music sounds across the entire album.

RealTalk the Black Boy King does not shy away from the heavy themes; he is a well-read man not afraid to communicate his perspective loud and clear. Just as ‘Destination’ details the throes of following one’s dreams in the face of adversity, ‘Droppin’ Em’ relies on the intense old-school hip-hop beats in its vivid exploration of masculinity, success, and fame. RealTalk places a significant amount of emphasis on being self-made in the industry, and his history in the independent, underground scene proves just that. Yet RealTalk ensures to maintain valuable bonds with his fans, whom he inspires on a daily basis through his social media platforms. His latest project ‘True’, now on Spotify, should be a winning showcase of his talent, and should hopefully earn him more exposure in the coming weeks.
