Review: Trey Connor's latest single 'Aloof' from his 4-song EP (In The Clouds)

by Adam Bailey

Trey Connor is back with his latest single "Aloof", which is taken from the 4-song EP (In The Clouds).

The Voice Casting finalist delivers this breakup song with plenty of sentiment and emotion, driven by an upbeat and powerful sound. "Aloof" has a pop-rock feel, with hints of classic-rock elements within. I would imagine this song could appeal to a wide audience, and I could draw slight similarities with the likes of Def Leppard, Foo Fighters etc. "Aloof" also manages to capture a dreamy and reflective soundscape too.

We caught up with Trey to ask a little further about the songwriting process of the song:

"Aloof" took me about a month to write. I came up with all of the guitar parts first, and then added the melody and lyrics after I had roughed out the structure. Unlike how a lot of songs go, the writing process was really easy and came naturally. I had a blast working with Jake Rye (Social Recording Company) and seeing him really bring this one to life during the production phase.

Aloof is one of 4 tracks off his upcoming EP "In The Clouds", which is a collection of songs dedicated to mental health struggles, feelings and disassociation. Trey explained "It embodies the universal truths of what it means to be alive".

Trey Connor is a singer-songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. At only 24 he's already started to establish himself within the music industry, and has gained critical acclaim from various media outlets. If "Aloof" is the benchmark where he's at now, who knows where we might see or hear him in the future.
