This summer, Cian Ducrot followed his UK and Ireland #1 album, Victory, with a tour of massive outdoor shows, including memorable performances in Cork and Dublin. Hot Press captured his live appeal perfectly, noting, “It can be difficult for artists to avoid looking as if they're on a pedestal, up there on stage, and yet this is exactly what Cian Ducrot manages to do, emphasising his own vulnerability and humanity.” Now, Cian shares his brand new single, “Can’t Even Hate You.” [Listen below.]
That very vulnerability and humanity infuse Cian’s music with a relatable emotional depth, which shines through in “Can’t Even Hate You.” Known for his ability to capture the complexities of love, Cian delves into the turmoil of wanting to hate someone after a breakup to ease the pain, only to find it’s impossible. The song is a powerful example of what Cian does best: blending raw emotion with his soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting.
Cian explains, “It’s one of those songs that finds its meaning as you write it. It starts as just an idea, something you relate to, and over time you realize what it’s really about. The song evolves, becoming more focused on that one feeling. It’s an emotional process, and sharing something so personal can be scary because no one will truly understand it like you do. But in the end, sharing it is what it’s all about—for people to connect, to love it or hate it, and hopefully, it helps someone.”
“Can’t Even Hate You” arrives as Cian continues to work on his highly anticipated second album. While many artists might rush to release a follow-up after a major breakthrough—Cian has already racked up 1.3 billion streams, two Top 20 hits, and the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year—he’s chosen to take his time. He’s allowing the new record to reach its full potential while also soaking in the incredible response from his fans on tour.
Cian, who has become known for his spontaneous and moving pop-up performances, recently took things to a new level as the first artist to perform through the international Portals initiative. Accompanied by a flash mob choir and a backing band, Cian’s performance was live-streamed from the Portal sculpture in Dublin to audiences in New York City, Vilnius, and Lublin.
The Portals interactive sculptures were created to give people a window into the lives of others around the world, fostering a sense of togetherness. Music, too, has the power to connect people across distances, and Cian embodies that connection. His ability to channel the complexities of love into his music has set him apart from the beginning. Cian’s extensive summer tour is nearing its end, with only Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus and iMEP Music Festival left on the schedule. In addition to the UK dates listed below, he’ll also perform two shows in Portugal this December.
