In a big announcement on social media, legendary British pop group The Fizz (formerly known as Bucks Fizz) introduced two new members, marking a fresh chapter in the band’s four-decade history. The news follows the upcoming departure of original member Mike Nolan, who will officially leave the group by the end of the year.
The group shared the announcement shortly after it was revealed on BBC Radio 2: "As just announced on Radio 2, we can now reveal the two new members of 'The Fizz' are Matthew and Nikk. Please give them both a very warm welcome to the group. They are both going to be great additions, and there really are exciting times ahead."
The new members are Matthew Pateman, former lead singer of 1990s boy band Bad Boys Inc, and Nikk Mager, a British solo artist who rose to fame through the reality show Popstars: The Rivals and as part of the boyband Phixx.
Pateman brings a wealth of experience from his chart success with Bad Boys Inc, which scored six UK chart positions, and his current role as frontman for the 80s tribute band Wham!Duran. He also performs with 90s band Let Loose alongside original members Rob Jeffrey and Lee Murray. Mager, who had four top-20 hits with Phixx, adds a modern pop edge to the lineup.
The group’s remaining original members, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, expressed their gratitude to fans, saying, "Cheryl and Jay appreciate your dedication and support, so much more than you can ever possibly know... Here's to a New Beginning!"
Fans on social media were quick to react, with one commenting, "Absolutely delighted!! Must admit to being unsure about having new boys but what a fab choice you've made!!! Can't wait to see you all together live," while another enthusiastically welcomed the new members: "Welcome to the wonderful world of Fizz, Matthew and Nikk."
With their new lineup, The Fizz looks forward to what promises to be an exciting new era.
