Reflecting on "A Fragile Thing," Robert Smith explains, "It explores the challenges we face when forced to choose between conflicting needs, and how we cope with the inevitable regret—even when we’re convinced we made the right choice. It’s often incredibly difficult to become the person you need to be."
Originally formed in 1978, The Cure has sold over 30 million albums globally, headlined Glastonbury Festival four times, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. They remain one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK.
Songs of a Lost World was written and arranged by Robert Smith, produced and mixed by Smith and Paul Corkett, and performed by The Cure: Robert Smith (vocals, guitar, six-string bass, keyboard), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums and percussion), Roger O'Donnell (keyboard), and Reeves Gabrels (guitar). The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales.
The album’s visual design was conceptualized by Robert Smith, with long-time collaborator Andy Vella handling the artwork. The cover features the sculpture "Bagatelle" (1975) by Janez Pirnat.
Songs of a Lost World will be available in several formats: 1LP, a Miles Showell Abbey Road half-speed master 2LP, marble-colored 1LP, double cassette, CD, a deluxe CD package with Blu-ray (featuring an instrumental version of the album and a Dolby Atmos mix), and in digital formats.
