Swedish Man Gets Disability Benefits for Heavy Metal Addiction
- in Latest
A Swedish man has been awarded state disability benefits for his addiction to heavy metal music after a long campaign.
42 year old Roger Tullgren claimed: "I have been trying for 10 years to get this classified as a handicap.
"I spoke to three psychologists and they finally agreed that I needed this to avoid being discriminated against."
He had consulted the three psychologists to testify his addiction which Tullgren claims has led him to attend well over 300 gigs in the last year and in turn has left him unable to hold down a job.
The story was revealed by Swedish newspaper The Local who have reported that Tullgren now has a job as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Hassleholm.
His salary is supplemented by his state disability benefits and his new boss has given him leeway allowing him to rock out to his favourite music during work, so long as he doesn't disturb the patrons.
Tullgren now even gets time off his new job to attend metal gigs.
Tullgren said: "I signed a form saying: 'Roger feels compelled to show his heavy metal style. This puts him in a difficult situation on the labor market. Therefore he needs extra financial help'. So now I can turn up at a job interview dressed in my normal clothes and just hand the interviewers this piece of paper."
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think this is right?
