Tate McRae Ignites Lisbon With Dazzling Opening to 'Miss Possessive Arena Tour'

Tate McRae has never sounded more self-assured—or looked more commanding—than she did on the opening night of her Miss Possessive Arena Tour. Under the neon-hued lights of Lisbon’s MEO Arena, the 21-year-old Canadian pop powerhouse launched into a tightly choreographed, emotionally charged performance that left no doubt: this is a global superstar stepping into her imperial phase.
BENEE warmed up the crowd with her signature indie-pop weirdness, but the night belonged to McRae, who stormed the stage with the title track “Miss Possessive,” flanked by dancers and drenched in the tour’s sleek, moody aesthetics. From there, it was a full-throttle sprint through the shimmering synths and late-night confessionals of So Close To What—her chart-topping third studio album—highlighting cuts like the explosive “2 hands,” the haunting “Dear god,” and the defiant “Sports car.”
This wasn’t just a pop concert—it was a statement of artistic evolution. McRae’s setlist swung between raw vulnerability and glossy control, often within the same breath. She paid tribute to her breakout era with “you broke me first,” gave the crowd the viral catharsis they came for with “greedy,” and closed with the aching anthem “run for the hills,” a reminder that even at her most choreographed, she still bleeds on the mic.
Visually, the show was a feast of Y2K futurism and dancefloor drama. Styled by longtime collaborator Heather Picchittino—with added creative direction from Chloe & Chenelle—McRae debuted a custom leotard/corset/shorts ensemble crafted by Samuel Osoki and Christine Mutton. The look fused athleticism with armor, echoing the tour’s themes of romantic power plays and emotional survival. Elsewhere, pieces from Balenciaga, Ruslan Baginskiy, Ottolinger, and Giaborghini sharpened her stage persona into something both fashion-forward and deeply personal.
The Lisbon show marks the start of a sprawling global run that spans 50+ dates across Europe, the UK, and North America, including three already sold-out nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden and two at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. It follows a spring run of festival-dominating appearances—from Lollapalooza Argentina to Estéreo Picnic—and precedes what’s shaping up to be one of the summer’s biggest arena tours.
Of course, this all rides on the success of So Close To What, McRae’s most cohesive and sonically ambitious record to date. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned two #1 hits on the Dance/Pop chart: “Revolving Door” and “It’s ok I’m ok,” both of which served as emotional centerpieces during the Lisbon set.
While the Neutrogena® product activations at select tour stops remind us this is still a pop machine in full throttle, McRae’s presence on stage feels anything but manufactured. She’s whip-smart, athletic, and emotionally locked in—more Janet than Olivia, more Robyn than Dua. The choreography hits hard, but it’s the moments of vocal intimacy, the unexpected crack in her voice on “Dear god,” that elevate the night from spectacle to something more sacred.
In Lisbon, Tate McRae didn’t just prove she can sell out arenas—she proved she deserves to own them.
