Muhammad Nazir, the man behind the novelty song that invaded the Christmas charts; “One Pound Fish”, has been deported back to his native country Pakistan.

“One Pound Fish Man”, as he has been dubbed, first came to the public’s attention in a YouTube video where he sang “One Pound Fish” on his market stall in East London to promote his fishy stock.

He then rose in his popularity after auditioning for the X Factor earlier in the year.

Although he didn't get past the audition stage of the show, he became a firm favourite with viewers and this led to him being snapped up by record bosses to record the song to appeal to festive record buyers.

The Mirror reported that Nazir’s visa expired and he was deported back to his home in Lahore, Pakistan on Christmas day.

The newspaper quoted the unlikely star’s agent as saying: "He will be returning to Pakistan on Tuesday and will be celebrating New Year with his family.

"His return to the UK is pending approval of a working visa. We fully expect him to return in the coming weeks."

“One Pound Fish” entered into the Christmas Chart at number 29. Not bad considering that the song started its life as a way to promote sales on his stall.
