Adele Dominates US Album Charts for Second Year in a Row

Adele's album “21” has been named the biggest selling album of the year in the US, the second year in a row that the album has claimed the title.
The album originally sold a whopping 5.8 million copies in 2011, the year it was released and followed up with sales of 4.4 million copies in 2012.
Nielson Soundscan who have been tracking the sales of albums since 1991 reported that this is the first time that the same album has taken the title two years in a row.
In addition to Adele dominating the chart for this year, the top five almost entirely consists of British artists with the exception of Taylor Swift who takes the number two position with her album “Red” which has sold 3.1 million copies.
One Direction take the number three spot with their album “Up All Night” which has sold 1,6 million copies, Mumford & Son's “Babel” is fourth with 1.5 million and One Directions “Take me Home” also appears having sold 1.3 million copies.
Keith Caulfield who is Billboard Magazine's associate director of charts spoke of Adele's success saying: "It's a sort of a once-in-a-lifetime album - only a few of these albums come along in history.
"She really crossed over from pop to Latin to adult contemporary to dance. Young and old consumers bought it, and because of its mixture of fans, she was able to sell it as well as she did."
