It seems that former X Factor winner Shayne Ward has learned little from the spat that Matt Cardle had with James Arthur over Twitter as he has tried to bestow some of his wisdom on the show's current champ.

Shayne has tried to warn James about surrounding himself with the wrong people in the industry and that the industry itself is a difficult one to be in.

Shayne, speaking through Digital Spy said: "I think just learn as much as you can from the get go, because it's easy to have the wrong type of people around you.

"So as long as he surrounds himself with the right people, he listens, he learns, has a fantastic time with it, because it's a hard industry. But he's got a great voice.”

Shayne may not be the best person to be giving James advice about his music career after the winner of the second series lost his contract with Syco back in 2011 and he is now set to star on ITV's Dancing on Ice.

Matt Cardle has previously tried to give James advice, telling The Sun in an interview: “I said, 'Look, James, you're very talented but you haven't sold two million records yet, which I have.

“You haven't had two top ten albums yet, which I've had. Don't start mouthing off before you've even really left the show.”

Predictably, this didn't go down too well with James who responded by saying that Matt's “desperation for press is embarassing.”
