Spotify launch taste rewind
Spotify has answered the recent challenges from competition by launching a new service called Taste Rewind. This new platform looks through the user's music collection and suggests similar past artists, arranging them by decade.
Spotify made the announcement about Tatse Rewind through its Twitter page saying “What would you jam to if you were born during a different decade? Find out with #TasteRewind!”
The new service will have its own dedicated site away from the main Spotify site and will be great for those who are curious as to what their musical taste could have been like if they were born in another decade.
Users will be asked to choose three of their favourite artists when they sign in for the first time and this will be used to compile a list of song suggestions which can then be searched through and favourites can be added to the user's Spotify account.
This new service is an interesting twist on the standard streaming method. It goes one step further from simply suggesting songs that users may like and this may give them a much needed edge against the competition.
Spotify has recently developed plenty of rivals in the streaming industry, not least of which being Apple's Apple Music service which similarly to other's such as Jay-Z's Tidal, boasts superior algorithms designed to give music fans the best recommendations to listen to next.
This may be so but I think Spotify definitely has an edge over its competitors with this unique twist and that should ensure the future of the service. For now anyway.
