Boy George Announces Arena Tour in the UK

by Andrew Braithwaite

The iconic 80’s star, Boy George, has announced his first major UK tour in 2018, headlining 11 arenas, throughout November. Backed by his famous band, Culture Club, this is the first full tour in the UK for over 16 years, showcasing their new album.

Fans will be delighted to learn the line-up consists of the original four members, back together following years of scandal and animosity. Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss join Boy George to make up for lost time by playing some of their greatest hits including “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?”

Initially formed in 1981, Culture Club broke up in 1986 and has reformed several times with little success. Now full of renewed enthusiasm, their headlining tour has support from two other 80’s icons, Belinda Carlisle and the Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey.

Belinda Carlisle gained universal fame as lead singer of the Go-Go’s and is best remembered for her 1987 hit single “Heaven Is a Place on Earth”. The Thompson Twins also had several top 10 hits in the 80’s.

Boy George has been awarded the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award and has sold over 50 million records worldwide. With an evening that features both classics and new material, Boy George has said: “We have put together an amazing show that is going to be filled with hits and fabulous memories; we know it will be, hands down, the best night out”.

Even today, with his androgynous style and reggae-influenced songs, Boy George commands attention wherever he goes. The announcement of this significant tour indicates that he is not content being stuck in the 80’s, but is ready to move on and find a new audience in today’s millennials.
