First New Music from ABBA in 31 Years

Swedish pop sensations ABBA have finally recorded new material, being in the studio together for the first time in decades. Two new songs have been recorded, the first of which has been announced with the title of “I Still Have Faith In You.”

Although never officially splitting, the band ceased touring in 1982, with a brief reunion at a private gala in Stockholm in 2016. This was followed by an innovative idea to tour as holograms, creating a virtual and live experience, masterminded by the Spice Girls’ manager, Simon Fuller.

A statement on ABBA’s Instagram account reads: “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project has an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio.”

The Swedish pop group achieved worldwide success following their win at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, with their iconic hit single “Waterloo.” The band derives its name by using the first letters of each of the names of the founding members, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

They have a record of achieving eight consecutive number one albums in the United Kingdom. The band consists of two married couples, but unfortunately, both relationships failed, due to the strain of their international fame.

Despite the interest in their new music, the band has always maintained they will never tour again. Bjorn has said: “I think we don’t feel the motivation. The four of us, with live concerts, no. The simple answer is because we don’t want to.”

One of the new songs will be performed by their digital selves in a TV special produced by the BBC and scheduled for broadcast in December.
