King King Set To Kick Off Tour Supporting Classic Rock Heroes Europe, Nimmo Brothers Dates Also Announced
- by Cameron Arndt
Award-winning UK blues/rock band King King will next week kick off their latest big supporting tour as they take to the road with 80s rock legends Europe.
The trek will take in a mammoth 21 dates all across the UK and Europe opening at Belfast’s Ulster Hall on September 11th and continuing through until the 7 October when proceedings will wrap up in Madrid, Spain.
It’s another high profile slot for the Alan Nimmo-led four-piece after big shows with acts such as Thunder and GUN in recent years. As is their custom, the group have been playing festivals and gigs throughout the continent for much of 2018, after the release of their well-received fourth album Exile & Grace in October last year. That record followed their breakthrough third LP, Reaching For The Light, which led to King King sweeping the board at 2016’s British Blues Awards – winning Best Male Vocal (Alan Nimmo), Lindsay Coulson claiming best on bass, “Rush Hour” got best song, their album (Reaching for the Light) awarded best album, along with the best songwriter award.
That being said, awards and plaudits are all very nice but it’s the band’s deserved reputation as excellent songsmiths, top class instrumentalists and all round nice guys that really rings out. Nimmo is a real down-to-earth hero in his native Glasgow and he’s forged a tight, vital unit that can rock out with the best of them, while also conveying true feeling and emotion through their music. The group’s live show is one of the most entertaining around and this latest run of gigs is sure to win them many new fans – and the band will be determined to give old pros Europe a run for their money.
The headliners are best known for the giant hit The Final Countdown but any true rock fan will be aware that they’re much more than that - classic tracks like Rock The Night and Superstitious are more than matched by a trio of recent harder-rocking studio albums beginning with 2009’s Last Look At Eden which has taken the band to new creative heights. Meanwhile, singer Joey Tempest hasn’t lost a step, with his vocals just as good as in their 80s heyday and his partnership with guitar virtuoso John Norum as strong as ever.
The double bill is a mouthwatering prospect. For tickets visit King King’s tour page at https://www.kingking.co.uk/tour.
In related news, Alan Nimmo has just announced a long-awaited reunion with his brother Stevie for a batch of dates as The Nimmo Brothers. This will be the duo’s first shows together since their sell-out 20th Anniversary Tour in 2016. Despite countless requests from fans over the ensuing three years it’s been difficult for the band to find time to hit the road thanks to Stevie Nimmo’s increasingly successful solo career and, of course, the rise and rise of King King.
A wee bit of space has been made, however, and the group has squeezed in 11 gigs before the end of the year, which are all sure to sell fast. Here are all the dates, get your tickets soon if you want to catch the boys in action!
