King King Bass Player Announces Departure From The Band

by Cameron Arndt

In a surprising move King King bass player and founder member Lindsay Coulson has announced that he is leaving the band. This news comes shortly after the group reported signing a new management deal with US-based Siren Artist Management Inc.

Due to the increased workload and touring this will involve, Coulson feels now is the time to step down for personal reasons.

"Sadly at this stage I feel I am unable to commit to the next exciting chapter in King King's success" says the bassist in a statement released on social media, "The band are moving to another level that will require extensive global touring as well as intensive studio time plus all the press and promotional commitments that go hand in hand with major record labels. After 10 years at the helm of King King it is for personal reasons (not least of which is family) that I must stand aside and allow the boys to seize this opportunity with both hands.

"I wish the rest of the guys continued success and thank everyone involved with the band and all the fans and followers all the very best for the future. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the UK shows for one last time.”

Coulson's last run of gigs with the band will be the upcoming January/February UK tour which will take in 10 dates across the country. His final show will take place at Glasgow's O2 Academy on Sunday 17th February. A replacement bassist has already been selected, and will be announced after Coulson's final gig.

King King was formed in 2008 by Coulson along with frontman Alan Nimmo – the pair having previously played together in The Nimmo Brothers. They went on to release four studio albums, most recently 2017's acclaimed Exile & Grace, and a live double album along with touring extensively including last year's rapturously received dates supporting Europe.

King King frontman Alan Nimmo posted a tribute to his colleague, saying "King King has been our entire life and dream for more years than the band has actually existed so for him to make this decision to step down was one of the hardest things he’s ever done! I’d like to say a huge thank you to Lindsay for all of his hard work over the years. He has been instrumental in the success of our band and his business prowess and work ethic has been matched by no one I’ve ever known!"

The band announced at the turn of the year that they'd signed with Siren Artist Management Inc, the LA company home to some of the biggest bands in rock. The deal will see King King share representation with groups like Europe, Saxon, Black Star Riders and GUN under the auspices of an organisation with worldwide reach.
