Interview: Flynn talks new music, songwriting & Niall Horan

by Andrew Braithwaite

Irish singer-songwriter Flynn has recently found himself featured on many key Spotify playlists, accelerated by his involvement in Lost Frequencies track ‘Recognise’ (over 40 million streams). Now with his latest track ‘B-Side' generating 300K+ streams in only a few weeks, and the likes of Niall Horan sharing his previous track 'One Of Us', it seems he's setting great foundations for the future.

We caught up with Flynn to ask him some questions, and find out a little more about him as an artist.

Your latest track ‘B-Side' has gathered plenty of momentum online. What is the song about?

Initially a bad break up - but in the end, about learning from it and feeling good about moving on with a positive vibe - getting away from dishonesty and being let down and learning from the experience

I believe Niall Horan shared your song song One Of Us, this must have been a great boost! Has the exposure opened up further opportunities?

Yeah, Niall’s a legend! Glad he likes the tunes!

Who are your main influences?

Artists like Amy Winehouse, Bill Withers and Eminem had a really big influence on me growing up. Listening to their music definitely helped me shape my own.

How has the whole Covid situation affected you as an artist?

I think it's allowed me to take a step back and really go through everything with a fine tooth comb! The lack of live shows has been really tough though, I miss that a lot!

If you could choose one musician to collaborate with, who would this be?

Probably Pharrell Williams

Have you got any gigs planned for the future?

Nothing ready to announce just yet but as soon as gigs are back up and running I’ll be playing lots of them for sure!

Do you have any standout gigs, or performances?

Probably Tomorrowland with Lost Frequencies, difficult to top that one

Have you got any new material in the pipeline?

YEAH SO MUCH! MY EP COMES OUT END OF THIS MONTH AND I’M WRITING NEW SONGS FOR EP2 AT THE MOMENT

What is your general songwriting process?

It depends really, sometimes an idea will come to me when I’m home alone and I’ll write it there and then. Sometimes I’ll feel the need to write it with other people so I’ll organise a writing session with some of my favourite people and do it that way.

Have you got a message for your followers and fans?

Just that I appreciate them all so much for the continuous love and support! It would be hard to keep going without it

Thanks again Flynn - all the best for the future!
