Q&A: Ada Morghe talks new 4hero remix, love for jazz & more

by Andrew Braithwaite

Ada Morghe's recent album, titled 'Lost,' skillfully wove together a captivating blend of refined expressive vocals, an ambitious and uplifting concept, and expertly executed musicianship. In a testament to her diverse creative abilities as an actress, author, and director, Ada now unveils an exciting twist by presenting 4hero's fresh remix of the title track.

When asked about the remix, Ada humbly expressed her deep honor upon discovering that 4hero was enthusiastic about reimagining "Lost." She confessed to being an avid admirer of their work for quite some time. With the release of this new remix, we seized the opportunity to catch up with Ada Morghe to ask some further questions.

You’ve just released a 4hero remix of your single “Lost” - how did the collaboration come about? And how does it differ from the original?

I´m so happy about this collaboration as I couldn’t think of anyone better than 4hero, the pioneers of drum´n bass. Of course, the remix differs from the original, but without taking anything away from the essence of the song. I think Marc from 4hero summed it up beautifully when he said: “I love how Ada and her band take on an adventurous blend of styles. They touched on Jazzy DnB with “Lost” which made the remix a natural thing for me to get into.”

You’re an actress, author, director and musician - how do you manage all the different creative roles?

Obviously, I am not doing everything at the same time. Besides, the different creative areas stimulate each other, so writing a book can inspire me for a song as well or vice versa. But at the moment making and performing music is definitely in focus.

If you could describe your music in three words what would it be?

Melodic, deep, soulful.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Love yourself. Trust yourself. Be yourself.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career?

Being a mother of two daughter who I love tremendously was the biggest challenge of the last years. I was always torn between the wish to be there for my children 24/7 and still find the time for my creative output and career.

If you could collaborate with one artist who would that be?

That´s a tough question, since there are so many. But if I had to choose, I would love to collaborate with Sting.

Where did your love for jazz music come from? And what inspires you lyrically?

I love the creative process, that's why I love jazz, because it's based on improvisation. Most tunes start out with a theme or a melody, and then the musicians will improvise over it. That was the approach for my album “Lost”. It's a journey into the unknown that needs your full attention and passion and shows the personality of everyone being involved. I truly believe that's how you get the magic.

Lyrically I'm inspired by great literature, poems, art pieces or simply when I let my mind wander around. One of my favorite books is “Letters to a young poet” by Rainer Maria Rilke.

What next for Ada Morghe? Do you have any gigs - or new music coming up?

I´ve just played concerts in Berlin and London. I´m looking forward to releasing remixes of three songs from the album “Lost this summer. The song “Lost” represents the “air”. The next one will be “The Story” – which stands for the element “earth”. DJ Booker T is doing the remix and I´m already excited to hear his version.
