This week we had the chance to catch up with pop artist Arum Flowers. Her new single “No Quieres” reflects her Spanish roots, showcasing R&B and latin influences.

Hey Arum, thanks for talking to us, we love your new single "No Quieres'. Can you explain what it means and the inspiration behind it?

Growing up in Mallorca, Spain, I have so many nostalgic memories of the long summers that shaped my adolescence. I wanted "No Quieres" to embody that feeling of an island summer while simultaneously incorporating lyrics about the dynamics of rekindling love.

You're based in London but grew up in Mallorca, how have your Spanish roots influenced your music?

My Spanish roots have tremendously shaped my sound. Growing up in Mallorca, I was surrounded by many different cultures and ways of life, which opened my mind to different visions for developing my sound.

What was it like working with producer Ben Esser, whose credits include Izzy Bizu, Portugal. The Man - how did you meet and what was the creative process like?

I was connected with Ben after I featured on a track with Tâches. We linked up in 2018 at Suol Studios in Berlin and started honing in on my sound. "No Quieres" was one of the first songs we wrote together, and it felt like the stepping stone that really kick started my project.

What artists did you grow up listening to?

I grew up listening to a lot of strong female pop artists, such as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, and Rihanna. When I would come home, there would be an array of music playing, including Country and Turkish music.

And did you grow up in a musical house?

My family's business is in sports, so not exactly a musical household! However, my parents have always been super encouraging of my musical and creative passions and would send me to singing, piano, guitar, and dance lessons.

If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?

I'd love to collaborate with Kaytranada; his song "You're The One" featuring Syd left a big impression on me. The goal is to one day get in the studio with him; learning from the master himself and watching him create would be legendary.

Whose artist career do you admire and like to follow a similar path?

I really admire RIMON’s career, a consistent uphill and organic growth. As a listener and follower, her work feels like it carries a lot of intention, and it seems that she has stayed true to her artistic values and vision.

Have you got any live gigs coming up?

I just hosted a release party in East London where I premiered the music video for "No Quieres," and I performed my latest singles. Yes, I'll be hitting the stage again real soon!
