Q&A: Jamie Miller Talks New Music, Moving to L.A., and Inspirations

Originating from modest roots in the working-class regions of Wales, the Los Angeles-based artist Jamie Miller has risen to prominence as a breakthrough pop sensation, achieving remarkable international success. With just a single EP and a handful of singles to his name, he has garnered over a billion streams, with 'Here's Your Perfect' alone amassing more than 500 million streams and reaching #2 on Spotify's Global Viral chart. His talent has earned him praise from notable artists such as Sam Smith, BLACKPINK, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, and Jennifer Hudson.
With the recent release of his new EP, we had the opportunity to catch up with Jamie and ask him a few additional questions.
1. Hi Jamie, how are you? Where are you right now?
I’m good thankyou. I'm currently in Los Angeles preparing for my American tour..
2. You grew up in Wales and are now based in LA, what inspired the move? Did growing up in Wales impact the music you write?
Signing with a record label in America inspired the move I probably would have stayed if it wasn’t for that!
3. Are there any Welsh artists that inspired you growing up? Or whose careers you’d love to emulate?
Tom Jones was a huge inspo to me and still is his success is unmatched.
4. You’ve got a new single out ‘Empty Room’ which was written about your grandmother…it must have been emotional to write? Tell us about the creative process
I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room for hours haha! But deff was closure and therapeutic at the same time. I loved writing it because it brought us all together writing it !
5. Do the lyrics usually come first on the melody when writing songs?
Concept came first always but then lyrics and then melody comes last for me Atleast.
6. Your second EP ’Things I Left Unsaid’ is out on the 4th October - how did you pick which songs would go on the EP? Which of the songs are you most proud of?
I just followed my gut on which song gave me that excited feeling listening back to it, maybe next time and empty room all of them are pretty special to me.
7. Are you planning on coming to the UK at all to play some gigs?
I’m deff planning it. I've never done a headline show in the uk can you believe that? I’m def coming!!
8. If you could create your dream festival line-up who would be on it and why?
Oooooo Bruno mars, Beyoncé, tori Kelly , Kelsea ballerini , dan and Shay, Selena Gomez , Jamie miller Shawn mendes, haha.
