Maisy is an artist whose storytelling and raw emotion have captured the hearts of fans worldwide. With her recent two-part EP Wonderlust making waves and an exciting UK tour alongside Jamie Miller on the horizon, she is tipped to become one of the next big household names in music. We caught up with Maisy to talk about her latest projects, dream collaborations, and the lessons she’s learned along the way.
1. Hey Maisy, how are you? You’re about to go on tour with Jamie Miller in the UK – are you excited?
I am so excited! Jamie is such a talent, and it is such an honor to get to be among the greats. I’m also so happy to get to come back to my hometown and play in England again.
2. You recently released your two-part Wonderlust EP – what was the reception like to it? And which of the two parts represents you most as an artist?
The reception was truly heartwarming. So many fans messaged to tell me it made them think of their wife, or kids, or a loved one. Wonderlust was the first time I’d ever released love songs, and I was so nervous about how they’d be received! It felt like everyone came together to celebrate love with that release, and I love that. For that same reason, I’d have to say The Dawn represents me best. I love Dusk, but there was something so genuinely pure in Dawn that really resonates with me. I feel that EP changed who I was as a writer, and I’m really proud of it.
3. Which track on the EP was the most difficult to write and why?
Eternity on Dusk was an interesting one. It was originally a completely different song called Heat Rush. We essentially decided it wasn’t good enough, and scrapped the entire song, minus one melodic concept. I rewrote Eternity based off of that, and I’m so glad I did because it’s a much better record for it!
4. If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
I would adore to work with Chappell Roan. I think she’s so genuinely inspiring, in both her artistry and her stage presence.
5. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing songs?
It’s always coming from a very genuine place, they’re my real feelings and experiences. I always say I can’t write a song unless I’m truly feeling the story behind it.
6. Which artists are you listening to at the moment
Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Paris Paloma, Ethel Cain, and Jamie Miller (I’m not just saying that because I’m touring with him, his songs have truly been playing on repeat for me as of late!)
7. What would you most like to achieve with your music?
I hope that I can connect with people emotionally. Whether I’m singing about love or heartbreak or anything in between, I really value lyricism and knowing that I made someone feel something, or helped them through something. Music is so healing, and to have played any part in that for someone is the most meaningful thing to me.
8. If you could create your dream festival headline – who would be on it?
If there is a world in which I could play the same show as Taylor Swift, I’d probably die of joy. Her, Chappell, Harry Styles, Sabrina, Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Maisie Peters, truly any of these artists would be a dream to see.
9. When will you next be back to the UK?
Hopefully so soon! I miss home so dearly, I’m always looking for an excuse to come back.
10. What’s been your most difficult hurdle you’ve had to overcome and what’s the best advice you could give to someone just starting out in music?
I think I definitely got sucked into the numbers game, and beating myself up or judging myself and my work based on the numbers of streams or views on TikTok. It sucked the joy right out of it, and I almost quit. I was able to reclaim my love of the job by stopping trying to write what I thought would be a hit, or what my label at the time wanted, or what would go viral, and just started writing songs for me, again. That’s the best advice I can offer anyone. Do it for you. As long as you keep that mentality, it will stay fun and something you’re passionate about.
Thanks Maisy - all the best for the future!
