The Darkness is a british hard rock band, influenced by the glam-rock genre in their usage of distorted guitars, power chords, blazing solos and a focus on the vocal side of the music in most of their pieces.
The British aggrupation, formed in 2000, well known for songs such as “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” have released one of their most popular tunes “Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End) in a live version. Performed at Hammersmith, London, the song features a whole new performance to the well-known tune, which fans will definitely love.
The performance is quite an astonishing feat, the mix is well-done, but what amazes us as listeners the most, is the highly virtuosic performances from every member. The drumming and the low-end still provides a solid base for the guitars to interact and create the powerful, and well-known riff.
Of course, speaking about the virtuosity of each member of the band is never complete without highlighting the magnificent powerful vocal delivery from the frontman Justin Hawkins. Endless connections can be made to other great singers because of his range and power when going between octaves, but it’s important to mention the way he owns the stage with every pulse of the song, and gives the audience the same type of energy they are listening to.
The Darkness, as mentioned, is a well-established aggrupation, and we doubt that they will see much growth in sales or fan base resulting from the release of the song. Nevertheless, it is important to notice that the release of this song when we’re nearing the Christmas shopping era is a clear way to thank the current fans for the continuous support that they have showed for the band.
These kinds of gestures are what keeps these bands relevant and engaged with their audience, which in today’s industry is a key element for music to stand the tests of time and trends that inevitably disrupt the hard-rock scene with every new release.
Undoubtedly, The Darkness has had a lot of influence in the heavier british rock scene, but also in the general culture and knowledge of the international music fans with their most known pieces, which is the case of this particular song, we truly hope to hear more from them but for now, we can enjoy this live performance and appreciate the gesture that they communicate with the release of it.
