Gengahr are just about to start a tour which sees them crossing continents, all the way down to Auckland in New Zealand to spread the word of their latest album, Sanctuary, which is due for official release on the 31st January.
This tells us there is a fair bit of confidence in this work and rightly so, there is definitely much to celebrate. ‘Never a Low’ is the first single from the album and gives us a good insight into the evolution of the band, who released their first album nearly five years ago. The band members, Felix Bushe, John Victor, Hugh Schulte and Danny Ward, who met while still at school in Hackney, London have been evolving and are certainly one of this weeks exciting new releases.
‘Never a Low’ gives you a nice cross genre feel with their distinctive indie influence certainly there in the sound, but with a hard hitting percussion that pushes the song and floating synths that create a fullness and mystery that have hints to a Coldplay classic there is diversity. But yet this is still original, there are plenty of unique qualities, for example the vocals and added spoken lines, the layering of sound, both at the high and low ends are expansive with the use of clever production techniques. This song sets a fantastic tone to the Sanctuary album, with excellent song writing and top production, ‘Never a Low’ will no doubt be a hit on the road and we will look forward to hearing the live reviews of Gengahr on their upcoming tour and seeing how this rich song will enhance their live sets and bring a new energy to their performance.
