You may think Malka sounds familiar. Perhaps you've heard her music before, or you could know her work from her time as leader of 6 Day Riot.
Malka is the creation of Tamara Schlesinger, and she has already produced an interesting body of work, often influenced by current affairs and political turmoil which frequently empowers her strong lyrics and heartfelt emotions.
Moving together is an upbeat, soft song from it’s introduction that brings a sense of hope to the listener, with the main lyric: ‘Moving come on come on together’ repeating so often that you feel a sense of cohesion and positivity that could transpire around the world. The melody floats effortlessly throughout the song and a really full backing that comes in after 30 seconds pulls everything together. It’s starts softly, with light conga style drums, organ and synths accompanying the lead vocal, which emphasizes the message that ‘Moving Together’ will put across to you. After about 30 seconds the full, rounded sound kicks in; one thing that really struck me here was the bass and its warmth and what that can do to the feel of the song. As the song builds, so does the instrumentation, with heavier percussion, strings and synths that balance beautifully with Malka’s voice and fill the music with accompanying harmonies that build around the main lyric which create an anthem style ending, that I imagine when performed live will get the entire crowd singing along too.
Malka has produced a beautiful song that may very well become an anthem for people. If this song is picked up by big companies, it is perfect for adverts or political campaigns. The catchy hook will be heard in peoples living rooms for a long time, but more importantly, I hope the message of working together, cohesion and unity travels further than the song and having people singing this in unison would be a powerful antidote for a lot of the segregation and difference we continually hear about.
