London born, British singer-songwriter and model Dua Lipa decided to pursue a career in music at the age of just 15.
She posted videos on YouTube of herself covering songs by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Chance the Rapper, to name a couple. She signed to Warner Bros Records back in 2015 and ‘New Love’ her first single was released soon after. Her single featuring Martin Garrix “Scared To Be Lonely” has received over 250 million global online streams. Dua Lipa is one of the most streamed female artists on Spotify and the first female to receive five Brit Award nominations - when you hear her music you can see why.
Synths that repeat and have a subtle, haunting melody over the top have an air of intensity that sets ‘Physical’ up from the word go. Don’t worry, the energy builds giving you a high intensity track that pumps you up to want to dance, a lot! The chorus has a huge noise that makes sure you know where you are in the song, but breaks down to the verse, but the rhythm of the synths and implicit energy keep the balance excellently. The Middle takes it up to another level before bringing it down to a stripped back section, again with a rhythm that exudes class and gets your foot tapping. The lyrics focus on a relationship that revolves on physicality and the music that goes with it suits the passion and energy that would come with that.
The track is pitched right, delivered superbly and has an edge of real superiority to it that will make this a huge song. There are sections of the song that remind me of Lady Gaga, there are bits that flow effortlessly and there are tones of pure magic. Dua Lipa is maturing into a wonderful artist with a superb voice and ‘Physical’ is a great showcase for her.
