DJ, musician and producer, Kygo, constantly explores different genres to incorporate into his music, including deep house, down tempo and also uses sounds influenced from around the world.
He always had a love for music early on, and had piano lessons from the age of 6. After business and finance at university he decided to pursue music full time and began learning the craft of producing music. Kygo burst into the global music industry with his single ‘Firestone’ in 2014, and hit the charts all across the globe. He managed to gain over 89 million on YouTube and Soundcloud, and was recognised by Avicii and Chris Martin, to remix the single ‘Midnight’. His 2017 single featuring Selena Gomez, ‘It Ain’t Me’, won best international video at the music awards.
Sasah Sloan has a rich and soulful voice and we hear it straight away in ‘I’ll wait’ with a clever fast moving melody. The song itself builds and the introduction of a beat part way through the first verse is very effective to push the track along and then we’re into a big chorus, with extra instrumentation, clever beats and a huge energy that gives this song a happy, positive feel, before suddenly it drops back to the verse. The texture and dropping in and out along with pauses between the individual sections are excellent to give the song other dimensions, as do the changes in the percussion that take the song through each phase with a freshness.
There are sections of this song that remind me of some Mumford and Sons songs, which is strange because the song itself is a world away from their folk style, but the pace of lyric and transitions through sections are certainly reminiscent of their work. However ‘I’ll Wait’ is a great combination of a very talented producer who has utilized his skills to create a song that perfectly works to allow Sasha Sloan to deliver an awesome vocal.
