Clara Mae’s ‘Run Into You’ is just the perfect blend of vulnerability and fearlessness. The Swedish singer has captured the impulses that run hot within most millennial and Gen-Z crowds these days with a song that deals with daring topics while keeping the melody light and accessible.
It’s brash, it’s raw, and it’s teeming with sexy, scintillating sounds that should do well to bring in the electropop tech fans to the fold. Mae’s vocals are just smooth and delicate enough to hold on to the high notes at the beginning. She does an exceptional job at dragging through the high-pitched opening lines before descending into a slower, more emotionally resonant segment.
The core of the composition deals with a romantic relationship; however, Mae doesn’t take the traditional route to characterize her emotions. She imagines what it’d be like to run into a loved one and spill her secrets to them, yet her lyrics are convincing enough to really invite the listener into her mindset. She trusts her audience to interpret those themes as well as they could for themselves, and just let the beats do the rest of the work for her. Thankfully, the soulful synth and bass drops keep the tempo high and infectious, so that we can truly relate to Mae’s train of thought.
Clara Mae has been griding through the music scene since 2014, when she released her first song as a solo artist, ‘Changing Faces’. But note that that wasn’t her first foray into singing; the twenty-eight-year-old got her beginnings at a Swedish competition show Next Star. She’d also worked with the likes of David Guetta and Tiesto early on. Her most recent works have charted on multiple electronic/dance music listings, but it was her featured performance on KREAM’s ‘Taped Up Heart’ that garnered her international recognition as an impressive female vocalist.
When asked what kind of advice she’d like to dish out to artists hoping to become a musician just like her, she said;
I get a lot of question on Instagram where people like “Can you give me any tips, I wanna be an artist as well”. And I said like try to find out who you are because that’s the question that everyone asking you. Who are you? What’s special about you? And that took me many years to find out who I am and what I wanna do, what type of music. And when you do, hold on to it, and write a lot of songs.”
