Iconic Aussie Singer Daryl Braithwaite Releases Single Originally Meant for P!nk

Aussie pop rock legend Daryl Braithwaite has released his first single in over seven years, the sweetly titled “Love Songs.”
In an interesting twist, he has revealed that the track was actually written for US pop star P!nk, much to the surprise of fans. Thanks to P!nk taking a much-needed recording break, Braithwaite couldn’t resist taking on the track, commenting that it brought up pleasant memories of old songs he had enjoyed during his childhood.
Braithwaite has been a mainstay of Aussie music for 50 years, originally fronting rock band Sherbet from 1970 to 1984. His solo career was initially only moderately successful, reuniting with his old band for periodic reunions. In the late 1980s, Braithwaite would once again become a household name with his chart-smashing comeback album “Edge.” Producing three hits, “One Summer,” “As the Days Go By,” and “All I Do,” he was back on the Aussie charts for the first time in over a decade.
The early 90s, he released what has become one of the most recognised and endlessly popular tracks in Australian music history. “Horses” dominated the number one chart spot for weeks and earned him four award nominations, winning Producer of the Year. In 2017, Braithwaite was inducted into the coveted ARIA Hall of Fame.
Speaking about this new track, Braithwaite stated that this one appealed to him as he felt it suited him. The lyrics take us on the emotional journey of someone dealing with a break-up and we get the sense of both certainty, whilst also feeling unsure of what to do. It feels like a classic break-up song. The love, the loss, the longing, but also the knowledge that on some level, the relationship ending was probably for the best, if only for now.
Listening to it knowing it was supposed to be for P!nk, of course we can’t help but wonder what it would have been like with her vocals. Perhaps we’ll never know, unless the two stun us by blessing us with a duet version one day. We can dream, but in the meantime we get to enjoy this beautiful offering from Braithwaite.
